How to export Airtable to Excel

Tim Chen

When using Airtable to manage my tasks, I sometimes want to export the data as a backup in case I suddenly lose access to it. Fortunately, Airtable provides this feature.

Before jumping into the export process, it’s important to understand a few limitations:

First, Airtable doesn’t allow exporting entire bases—only individual tables. To work around this, you can either modify an existing view or create a new one to ensure all the fields you want are visible. Keep in mind that any hidden fields won’t be part of the export.

Second, attachment fields—such as those with images or files—will show up in your exported CSV as filenames and temporary URLs. These links expire after a short time, so make sure to download the files promptly once your export is complete.

Lastly, certain data simply won’t be included. This includes record-level comments, field descriptions, base guides, extension-only data, and any color formatting used in Airtable.

How to export Airtable to Excel

  1. Click the view you want to export.
  2. Click the name of the view you want to export.
  3. Click Download CSV
  4. Click Okey.
  5. In most cases, the export will be fast, but it may take some time if you have a very large table.
  6. Right-click the file you download, click Open With, and select Excel.
